Sneak Peek: Project Gold

As this short week comes to an end, we've had some major progress with renovations and interior overhauls here at House of Design. We thought we'd introduce you to another project we're working on.

Project: Gold
(if you follow us on Instagram, which we suggest you do, you may already be following along)

So....What we're doing?

A main floor makeover including custom mouldings, wainscotting and builtins for the office, family room and foyer. We are revamping this family space to give it a more posh and luxurious feel.

What did it look like before we started?

This is actually a picture we took before ordering all new custom furniture. We wanted to show the homeowner what two club chairs would look like in the window alcove. They originally had an oversized sofa in their place.

What it looked like when some of the architectural features were being installed...

The Foyer

The Dining Room
While we're not decorating the living & dining room just YET, we are painting the entire main floor and adding some much need paneling.

What pretty things will be going into the space?

A mix of lustrous deep and pale purples contrasted with neutral grays is going to give this family of six a brand new love for their house and much more usable space.
Soft velvets accented with bold patterns with straight lines will help create emphasis in this luxurious but comfortable family room. We're also bringing in custom pieces tailored for the client's needs and wants will make this family room the new central hub for the Golds!

What features are we giving this space to make it function better for the client?
A full custom wall unit in the family room will help create space for both storage and display. A wall mounted TV and built in fireplace will make this wall unit a great place for the family to gather around.

Besides the pretty we've also increased the functionality of this unused room by turning it into a home office. A custom double desk adds lots of work space for the family while a custom wall unit will maximize storage without taking away from any square footage of the room (this built in wall unit sits above their foyer closet, we found the extra space for it behind a wall)! But wait, there's more! There's a sneak peek at some finishes in this photo as well. Dark grey grass cloth wall paper acts as a focal point behind the desks while coffered ceilings with recessed lighting and accent painted recessed panels create drama and elegance!

So as you can see, everything is coming along smoothly with Project Gold. A lot of the finishing touches will be going in within the next few weeks so be sure to check back and see how it's coming along.

It's Finally Here!

After much anticipation, the latest issue of Reno & Decor Magazine is finally out! We've been anxiously awaiting the release of this issue because not only does it have great ideas for exteriors and outdoor living in time for the Spring / Summer season, but it also features great tips for kitchens as well. If you take a look at the cover of the magazine, you'll see a beautiful kitchen renovation that was done by House of Design. The white cabinetry fits with the fresh and airy theme of Spring, but the use of contrast in the drapaery, flooring, backsplash and countertops definitely adds edge to this kitchen! Be sure to pick up your copy today to read more about this kitchen renovation!

The release of the magazine corresponded and kicked off with the Spring National Home Show. As mentioned in an earlier blog post, Principal Designer Erica Gelman will be discussing the trials and tribulations of this kitchen renovation in a 45 minute seminar. Catch Erica's expert advice on Sunday, March 24th at 12:00 PM on the IDEA Stage presented by Reno & Decor Magazine. On top of the incredibly inspiring presentations on the IDEA Stage, esteemed designers like Glen Peloso, Jim Caruck, Jackie Glass and Vicky Sanderson will be alongside Erica answering your design dilemma questions with free 15 minute one-on-one consultations at the Reno & Decor Magazine Booth ( Booth 5205 )!

What are you waiting for? Come to the National Home Show and pick up the latest issue of Reno & Decor Magazine to get inspired and get YOUR dream renovation's wheels turning!

Project: Little Lady
It's hard to not get excited about getting to work on a custom bedroom design for a little girl. We have fuschia fever here in the office and it's great to get a burst of colour in here just in time for Spring. Look out Molly Ringwald, this bedroom will be even prettier in pink!

Project Reveal: Urban Family Room

The pictures are finally ready! May we present: The Urban Family Room

Our play on contrast with a mix of both cool and warm greys and wood tones helps to modernize this space. The use of texture adds a cozy feel while tribal and animal inspired patterns and accessories create visual interest in the room.
